3M is sharing a sales sheet that compares the performance of three 3M™ Dyneon™ Fluoroelastomers (FPO 3820 and FPO 3620, and LTFE 6400ZC) with HNBR and EPDM rubber after these materials were heat aged in coolants. This 3M resource addresses the automotive industry’s demand for more resilient elastomers that can withstand hotter operating temperatures, extended service life requirements, and the increasing use of organic acid technology (OAT) to extend the life of coolants.
To measure material properties, 3M conducted compression stress relaxation (CSR) testing after the elastomers were heat aged in coolants, both with and without OAT additives. The results showed that high-performance peroxide curable FKM products, such as 3M™ Dyneon™ Fluoroelastomers, are poised to meet the increasing demands of today’s automotive coolant environments.
